The broad objectives of this course are to introduce students to,      

1.the nature of qualitative research (QR) and theoretical frameworks underpinning qualitative research
2.an appreciation of the relevance and significance of QR in the field of health
3.basic steps in planning, designing and conducting qualitative research; combining qualitative and quantitative research approaches,
4.range of methods employed in conducting qualitative research,
5.management of qualitative research data - recording, coding, synthesizing, analyzing, interpreting and reporting data, writing reports based on qualitative research design, and
6.ethics in doing qualitative research with reference to the area of health.

Teaching method: Class room lectures and discussion; class exercises and method demonstration
Method of evaluation: Written exam end of course(50%) and mid-course assignment (50%)
