This course introduces students to key approaches in the study of political economy and development. The students will learn about the intersections of political and economic spheres as they manifest in postcolonial societies. Moving beyond economic determinism, the course will help students engage with specific case of Dalit exclusions and identity politics, and their place in India's political economy. Broadly the course is an exploration into cultural economies of India and the politics of exclusion and resilience at the margins.
